Celebrating the “Halaran Festival” is a yearly tradition. wherein it is a a joint festival of the City of Roxas and the Province of Capiz. Last Wednesday and Thursday on the 7th and 8th of December, people from different places of Capiz celebrated this festival. This is being celebrated for both cultural and religious reasons. During this event, there were different groups who joined the so – called “sadsad” which is open for all as a competition, the drummings and cultural dances with their different creative costumes are open for all to see.

Despite the heavy rain during the “bisperas” of the festival, there were still thousands of people who attended the said event. Food Kiosks, stalls and other stored that sells different products and services were open for all the people.Lots of lights with different styles like snowflakes, reindeer, Christmas trees, etc made the festival more exciting especially during at night.

But aside from all the physical attractions, the feast was to honor Mary the Immaculate Conception, wherein there were masses held at the Immaculate Conception Metropolitan Cathedral for the people to attend with.

We should know the essence of celebrating Sinadya sa Halaran because it’s not just only to have fun but also to give respect and pay tribute to our mother Mary.
