The month has come once again to celebrate the “Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa” this August 2017. This is celebrated to promote the Philippine’s national language. Buwan ng Wika was previously called Linggo ng Wika (the week of the Philippine language). This year’s theme is “Filipino: Wikang Mapagbago”, which relates to Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s advocacy of strengthening the nation.

Last August 22, 2017, the Basic Education Unit of the College of St. John-Roxas celebrates it through a barrio fiesta. The students were dressed in their Filipino costumes, according to their designated region or area. Grades 1-3 wore costumes from Luzon. The students from Grades 4, 5 and 6 looked wonderful in their Visayan costumes, while the Junior High School and Senior High School students wore Muslim attires and other clothes from Mindanao. Meanwhile, the preschool pupils wore any type of Filipino costume.

There were food stalls and booths like the dedication booth of the Chorale. The students also enjoyed playing the different Filipino games (Larong Pinoy) such as the sack race, patintero, pabitin, dodg ball, catch the tail, tug of war and many others.  There was also a budots dance contest, a dance showdown between year levels, which truly entertained everybody. The celebration ended with a salo-salo or community lunch where the students prepared and ate different Filipino dishes and delicacies.
